Tips For Generating More Website Traffic

if you're a webmaster the most important thing on the internet and the world wide web is traffic. Without good, quality traffic your website will never make any sales or generate any leads or prospects for you. You can spend a fortune designing your website and hours creating content for it but it will all be futile if you don't spend an equal amount of time promoting your website and optimizing it for the search engines. Below are some great tips that if followed will get the traffic flowing to your website.

Writing articles and distributing them. This is probably the most popular method for webmasters to get the word out about their website. Writing articles and distributing them to article directories means your articles will appear on other websites (directories) and the website, in this case the article directories, will place a bio about you and a link to your website at the end of the article. Article writing is great for convincing readers that you are an expert and authority on your subject matter.

If you can get people to believe that you are an authority in your subject matter then they are more likely to click over to your site for more information. So to get your website and your content more exposure it is a good idea to write some articles. Once you write the articles you'll want to distribute them to article directories and niche blogs for more exposure and of course some back links to your website for search engine optimization purposes.

Create Back Links. This method works on two levels. First of all, you will receive traffic through your links posted on other sites. Also, as more and more websites link to yours, your search engine rankings naturally begin to rise. Google and other popular search engines will rank your website higher and higher as more and more websites link to it. This can be a major source of traffic. Showing up on the first page of results in the major search engines can bring you tens of thousands of visitors per month.

Below are a few different techniques you can use to generate links for your website.

You can submit your website to the major online directories as well as niche directories. You can write articles and post them to article directories that allow links in the article or in your author bio box. You can post on niche forums that allow links in your signature profile and you can also sneak your link into posts if you're creative.

One of the easiest and quickest ways to begin generating traffic is by blogging. The major search engines are always looking for fresh and relevant content and they know that Blogs can usually deliver on both. Blogging is also a great ways to generate some links as most bloggers are webmasters and will link to you if your content is interesting. And finally blogs rank very highly in most search engines for their ability to deliver fresh content.

The best strategy for generating traffic to a website is to apply several techniques and gauge the return on your time after a few months. With some good analytics you will be able to track where all of your traffic is coming from. The key is to work hard and work consistently for the best results.

Increase Website Traffic With Directory Submissions?

Basically the only method the Google webmaster guidelines allow for actively going out and acquiring links is submitting your website or blog to online directories. Unfortunately submitting your website to directories won't do much to increase your website traffic in the short term but it will however greatly increase your search engine rankings due to the high quality one-way links you'll be getting from high PR directories by following the instructions I lay out here.

There are literally thousands of online directories sprinkled all over the internet today. Unfortunately most of them are worthless and a good lot of them just want to collect your email address so they can spam you to death.

There are also people all over the internet that will submit your website or blog to 10,000 directories for $50. Obviously that's an exaggeration but you get the point... you get what you pay for and these people will submit your website to a good number of worthless directories and possibly some link farms which could potentially do more harm then good for your website search engine rankings.

What you want to do is look for online directories that have a Google page rank of four or higher. To find these online directories do a search in Google. There are plenty o websites with extensive lists of online directories. Search them out and then start to whittle them down in order by page rank. There are a few free online directories that I can think of that have page ranks of 6,7 and 8 and getting a link from these directories will give your websites a huge boost in the rankings. The trouble is getting links from these directories since they're usually back-logged and the only websites they link to are high quality websites.

When it comes to links from online directories there are basically 3 types:
  1. Free - these are free and cost you absolutely nothing.
  2. Reciprocal - You'll have to link back to the directory from your website to get a link from them but other then that is it free.
  3. Paid - You have to pay the online directory for a link - be weary of these because Google has been discounting links from websites that accept compensation in return for links.
Well there you have it... directory submissions are good for your website because they provide much needed links but unfortunately they don't do much to increase website traffic in the short term.

The First Step To Website Traffic Generation

Guys the first step to developing a nice and steady stream of website traffic is building and acquiring as many anchored back links for your website.

What are anchored back links?

Well first let's start off with back link or link to really get down to basics. Link is short for hyper link and specifically what we want to talk about here are text hyper links that are used to "link" one website to another.

Whenever you scroll over a piece of text with your mouse and the cursor changes from a pointer to the little hand with the index finger extended out, that's a text link and Google as well as most other search engines heavily weigh the number of text links you have.

So basically if you have a lot of other websites linking back to you the search engines see these links as "votes" if you will for your website and the more votes you have the higher the search engines will place you for your selected keywords.

Selected keywords? Huh? Wha?

You see when a website links to you the text that they link to you with has to read something right?

Well whatever that text reads is your selected keyword capiche?

So your job if you want to generate or increase your website traffic is to acquire these text links form other websites for keywords that you want to target.

So how does one go about acquiring these valuable text links from other websites to achieve higher search engine rankings?

Well that's basically what Website Traffic For beginners is about so just stick around and we'll go through it step by step.
